Data Entrepreneurs – a course for healthcare professionals

The project, implemented by the Medical University of Łódź in cooperation with Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), aims to prepare healthcare professionals to use medical data consciously and effectively in clinical, research, and business practice.

The course responds to the growing needs related to the creation of the European Health Data Space (EHDS), emphasizing the development of skills in data management, ethics, cybersecurity, statistical analysis, and the use of artificial intelligence in medicine.

Project objectives:

  • to improve the competence of doctors, pharmacists, and researchers in the acquisition, storage, and analysis of health data,
  • to prepare professionals to implement innovation and digital transformation in healthcare,
  • to develop entrepreneurship based on medical data,
  • creating an integrated, modular program accessible to the wider EIT Health community.Program.

The course consists of 10 online modules (15 hours in total), covering, among others:

  • medical data management,
  • cybersecurity and data protection (mandatory module),
  • ethics of health data collection and use (mandatory module),
  • intellectual property in medicine,
  • R and RStudio for medical sciences (including statistics, machine learning, deep learning),
  • data integration and creation of analytical algorithms,
  • data entrepreneurship – entrepreneurship based on data.

The course will be available on the EIT Health Academy platform, in English (with subtitles), in an asynchronous (self-paced learning) format.

Results:

  • training of 1,600 professionals (including 800 from RIS countries) by the end of 2025,
  • high course completion rate (90% of participants),
  • UEMS EACCME certification, confirming the importance of the program in the European continuing education system,
  • long-term availability of the course thanks to a commercial model (fee approx. EUR 200).

Why is this important?

Medical data is one of the most valuable resources in modern healthcare. Its proper use enables faster diagnoses, better therapies, and the development of innovative medical technologies. The DECP project supports the development of future competencies by preparing healthcare professionals to actively participate in the digital transformation and increasing the competitiveness of the European medical sector.
