Title:
AntimicroGAME
Protection status
Trademark patent No. 302527
Subject:
AntimicroGAME is an educational board game for teaching antimicrobial drug pharmacology, a discipline that deals with mechanisms of action, toxicity profiles, drug interactions, route of antimicrobials adinistration, as well as the basic principles of introducing rational antimicrobial therapy. The scientific content of “AntimicroGAME” was based on the current program of Basic Medical Pharmacology for undergraduate courses in Medicine (Medical University of Lodz 2012) and was further reviewed by an independent senior specialist in Medical Pharmacology.
Benefits:
The game provides a tool to improve students’ short- and long-term knowledge consolidation. The game creates a risk-free environment for decision-making and problem-solving, promoting friendly competition and reducing stress and anxiety, improving knowledge acquisition, communication skills and social interaction. A randomized study showed that participation in the game, compared to the traditional form of lecture, allows better preparation for the subject exam in pharmacology. In addition, the game tests the students’ ability to act in the context of real situations they will encounter in their future professional lives.
Stage of work:
AntimicroGAME was tested in a randomized controlled double-blind scientific study involving 124 medical students at the Medical University of Lodz, Poland. The results of the study were published in the journal OXFOR Academic: FEMS Microbiology Letters (link: https://doi.org/10.1093/femsle/fnw045).
Application:
The game is dedicated to medical students as an accessory tool in the basic education system.
