The pharmaceutical formulation, which is expected to be an innovative carrier for substances used in the pharmacotherapy of diseases of the oral mucosa, among others, improving application comfort, ensuring dosing accuracy and extending the retention period. 

Benefits: 

The formed films are distinguished by a number of favorable properties, including high adhesion and cohesion, easy dispersion ability, and thus could successfully serve as a carrier for drugs used in topical oral mucosal pharmacotherapy. The result of their use could be an increase in drug retention time and improved application comfort, and ultimately a higher efficiency of the implemented treatment. 

Stage of work: 

Disintegration time studies were conducted, their film-forming properties were evaluated, and textrometric parameters of the formulations – adhesion, cohesion and spreadability – were determined. The dynamics of the transformation of the tablet to film form was studied. Using sugar alcohols and inorganic salts, tablet disintegration time was optimized to less than 60 seconds. Using mucoadhesive polymers, the application properties of the resulting films were improved. Using direct compression technology, 5 batches of placebo tablets with a target weight of 200 mg containing film-forming polymers were produced.
