Title:
Transilluminator Vis.
Protection status:
Know-how in the process of patent application
Subject:
The object of the invention is a transilluminator that allows imaging, under visible light (Vis), of polyacrylamide gels after electrophoresis, stained with Coomassie blue or silver, and PVDF membranes after colorimetric staining in Western Blott assays.
Benefits:
The invention is a small-sized device, which allows easy transportation depending on the needs of the work. The device does not emit harmful UV light, and is equipped with energy-efficient LED bulbs and a light intensity regulator. It has a phone/photo camera holder, making it easy to document study results. Taken images of silver stained gels analyzed with ImageJ software indicated better quality of bands and a smaller background compared to those visualized using a UV transilluminator with a conversion overlay. Due to its basic functionality and small size, the device is a much cheaper alternative to standard transilluminators.
Stage of work:
A prototype device for analyzing gels in the inventors’ laboratory has been made. Technical and visual refinement of the prototype is planned.
Application:
The device will find its use at every stage of research in R&D units, where the basic laboratory methods are polymerase chain reaction (PCR), protein gel electrophoresis, or Western Blott.
